Can I Choose the Gender of My Baby?

When trying to raise a family and the issue of child bearing crops up, the most pertinent question that often worry the minds of couples is “Can I choose the gender of my baby?” Young couples trying to commence life of raising their family are often faced with so many reasons that make this question pertinent. Societal pressure is one, for example in China and most parts of Africa where male children are held in very high esteem. The situation whereby a couple would prefer one baby gender to the other is another. Another is a situation whereby a couple has been giving birth to a particular baby gender and would desire another. New couples and even single parents agitated by this question need not worry much if they could get themselves to understand the operation of the various techniques of choosing the gender of babies.

1. The Shettles Technique: This technique of choosing the gender of a baby was created by Dr Landrum Shettles in his famous book “How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby” and is a natural gender selection method. The various studies conducted on the technique have found it to have a success rate of about 75% and above and the chances of success in answering the question can I choose the gender of my baby have been high.
Basically, the technique focuses on timing of intercourse. However before the application of the technique knowledge of the female period of ovulation and the male sperm constitution is necessary.
Within a month, a woman is most fertile for five days. Three days before ovulation, the day of ovulation when the female ovary releases the eggs and a day after ovulation. The male sperm on its part consist of X and Y chromosomes which are responsible for fertilizing the eggs released by the female during ovulation. The X chromosome is heavy, slow in movement and could live for between 2 and 3 days before dying. It is also the one responsible for conceiving the female gender. The Y chromosome on the other hand which is responsible for conceiving the male gender is lighter, swifter in movement and could live for between 12 and 24 hours only before dying.
Armed with this knowledge, a couple who wants an answer to the question can I choose the gender of my baby will therefore time their intercourse accordingly. For example if the couple wants to choose a male baby, they will therefore time their intercourse to 24 hours and less to the female’s day of ovulation such that when the sperm is released it is only the faster Y chromosomes which is responsible for conceiving male babies that will fertilize the eggs before the slower X chromosomes. If on the other hand the couple desires a female, they will time their intercourse to 2 or 3 days before ovulation such that only the X chromosomes would survive and fertilize the eggs.
2. Sperm Sorting Technique: This technique is another way of answering the question “Can I choose the gender of my baby? The technique combines both the natural and artificial is a derivative of scientific advancement which has made sorting of the male sperm chromosomes possible. What this means is that the sorting of the X and Y chromosomes is done scientifically and the one chosen is then implanted into the female during ovulation. If the couple desires a female baby, then the X chromosome will be implanted in the female during ovulation. If however it is a male baby that is the chosen gender, then the Y chromosome will be implanted. This technique to choose the gender of your is however expensive because each session could cost as much as $3, 000.
Other factors like diet, the simultaneous orgasms reached by the female during intercourse and the alkalinity and acidity of the male sperm have also been found to have profound effect on the choice of baby gender.
